Dix Hills and Melville residents are lucky during the summer months to have such easy access to both the North Shore beaches and the renowned ocean beaches on the South Shore. The Town of Huntington has 8 town beaches and they’re all open the end of May to Labor Day Weekend. The seasonal permit (for residents) is only $25 and can be obtained right at the beach with a valid driver’s license and car registration. You can find directions to the beaches and more information at the Town of Huntington’s website.

There are a myriad of summer activities sponsored by the Town of Huntington. From summer camps for children to lessons in belly dancing for adults to “Movies on the Lawn” to golf and swimming lessons – you’ll find it in the Summer Leisure Guide! Check it out! The services and facilities available to all residents is a big reason why people love to live in Huntington Township.

And, of course, the Huntington Arts Council sponsors the annual Summer Arts Festival in Heckscher Park every year. A highlight of the summer is to bring your lawn chair in the evening to sit with friends and neighbors to hear a concert in the park. The Council has a wonderful program scheduled for this year. Don’t miss it!

Long Island Happenings- Fall Festival

Huntington’s Long Island Fall Festival in Hecksher Park.

Looking for something fun to do this Columbus Day weekend? The Long Island Fall Festival is one of the largest in the Northeast and is brought to you by the Town of Huntington and the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce.

The Fall Festival will feature four stages of continuous entertainment, including a free concert by Deborah Gibson on the Harry Chapin Rainbow Stage at 7 PM on Saturday, October 6^th. Other attractions include a carnival by Blue Sky Amusement & Entertainment, 300 hundred arts and craft vendors, a farmer’s market, wine tasting and micro-brew beer tasting, and two international food courts featuring food from local Huntington restaurants. There will also be numerous activities for young children, such as pony rides, pumpkin painting, and a petting zoo.

This four-day event will be held at Hecksher Park in Huntington on: Friday, October 5^th (6 PM to 10 PM); Saturday October 6^th(11 AM – 10 PM); Sunday, October 7^th(11 AM – 10 PM); and Monday, October 8^th(11 AM – 5 PM).

Admission is FREE thanks to corporate sponsors. Carnival rides and food are extra. There will also be $1.00 round trip shuttle service available from the Huntington Long Island Railroad Station to the festival. Parking at the Huntington Station is free.

Long Island Happenings- Summer Arts Festival (Wizard of Oz).

Huntington Arts Council showcases a performance of music from The Wizard of Oz.

Enjoy a concert in the park this Tuesday! Since 1966, the Hungtington Arts Council’s Summer Arts Festival has been hosting summer concerts in Heckscher Park. The performance will feature an adaptation of music from the Wizard of Oz by Plaza Theatrical Productions, Long Island’s largest touring theater company.

The performance is on the Chapin Rainbow stage at Heckscher Park on July 3^rd,, starting at 7:30 PM. Don’t forget your blanket and chair!

Admission is FREE. In the event of rain, this Tuesday’s concert will be moved to the Elwood Middle School, 478 Elwood Road, East Northport at the John Glenn High School Elwood Complex. For more information call 631-271-8423 x5.

The Huntington Arts Council is seeking volunteers for their 42nd Annual Summer Arts Festival

Looking for something to do this summer? Interested in music, dance and theater? Want an opportunity to meet and talk with performing artists? Then contact The Huntington Arts Council about their volunteer program that supports the council and its staff during the Annual Huntington Summer Arts Festival, June 22 – August 19, 2007 in Heckscher Park. The annual Long Island Fall Festival at Huntington opens Friday night, October 6 at 7 pm with The Village People performing at the Heckscher Park. The fun continues for 2 more days, October 7 & 8, with events and activities for everyone! Billy Joel Plays At Heckscher Park!

Billy Joel surprised the audience by playing at Huntington Arts Council's Free Concert at Heckscher Park in Huntington!

Every summer the Huntington Arts Council sponsors free concerts at Heckscher Park in Huntington – and they are always well attended by the local residents. Friday, August 11 was a very special evening – far surpassing everyone’s expectations! Halfway through the concert by Richard Joo, who was playing “The Classical Music Of Billy Joel” – who shows up – but Billy Joel himself! He entertained the audience with selections from his album, “Fantasies and Delusions”. The unexpected and wonderful surprise was a result of his close relationship with Richard Joo. Joel – on the electronic keyboard – joined Joo on the piano in playing “Baby Grand” as their finale. What an evening! The crowd went wild! (Also in the crowd was Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon – there to support his good friend, Richard Joo.)
