Note: The median house size is based on square footage – and except for new or newer homes – most of the homes listed on the Long Island MLS do not include square footage. That’s why the number is so large. I have requested that Altos Research put in N/A for that category – but we’re still working on that…

A year-round Equity theater – the first on Long Island since the 1980’s - will open in Northport in the old Northport Movie Theater.

Northport is a lovely waterfront village located on the north shore of Long Island and is part of the Town of Huntington. Settled in the early 1600’s Northport has a rich heritage and is known for its Main Street – with trolley tracks from the 1800’s still in place – the beautiful Victorian homes throughout the town and the lovely Harbor views. Now people will flock to the area for another reason. The historic Northport Movie Theater has been renovated and transformed into a state-of-the art professional theater where "the highest caliber of theatrical productions (musicals, comedies and dramas), utilizing professional ‘Equity’ actors" will be presented. More information about the 2007-2008 Season and purchasing season tickets are available at the Engeman Theater website. Opening Night is scheduled for June 28, 2007. Sounds to me like a wonderful asset to everyone – Northport residents, Town of Huntington – and all of Long Island! Good Luck to them – or "Break a Leg"…

Description and Key Points about The Town of Huntington

Description and Key Points about The Town of Huntington

The Town of Huntington covers a lot of territory – about 93 square miles and currently has a population of about 200,000. It is located about 40 miles from Manhattan. The western boundary starts at the Nassau County Line – goes through the bays and harbors along the north shore through Huntington Village (a hotbed of rebel activity during the American Revolution!) and ends past the waterfront village of Northport – or Great Cow Harbor as it was known in the 1600’s. To learn more about the history of the Town of Huntington go to http://town.huntington.ny.us/town_history.cfm

The southern part of the Town encompasses Dix Hills and Melville. Although both full of history (Walt Whitman’s home was in Melville and Dix Hills was named after a local Indian, Dick Pechagan – “Dick’s Hills”) – the old farms and hunting estates are long gone. Today the 110 Corridor in Melville is known for the stunning corporate buildings located there. Beautiful housing developments have been built over the years – some brand new amidst the established neighborhoods.

Some of the areas within the Township are incorporated villages – eg. Northport and Lloyd Harbor. But no matter where you choose to live, every area has a strong community affiliation with a great school district. The Town of Huntington is a wonderful place to live!
